1.Please,tell us your name, the city you are born and the books you write. My name is Jessica O'Gorek and I was born in Chesapeake, VA. I write in the adult, young adult, erotica and horror genres.
2. How did you become a writer?
I was an angry teenager and my pen helped me put my feelings in to words. Even if I couldn't say them I could always write them. I started writing dark and depressing poetry when I was around ten.
3. Who inspired you to write?
My father inspired me as a writer. I grew up listening to him clack away at the typewriter and I can remember just idolizing him to no end. He wrote and published and also taught Spanish, English and lit. I guess I was a daddy’s girl and I just wanted him to be proud of me all the time. He passed of cancer in Oct. 2012 and one of the last things I told him was that I was going to be famous one day. He looked at me, through the morphine and his dehydrated haze and said, with clarity in his eyes, “Honey, I don’t doubt it one bit.” That was one of the sweetest things he’s ever said to me. Whenever I get discouraged I think back on that moment.
4. How old were you when you wrote the first book?
I started writing at the age of 12. I would lock myself in my room as a teenager and come out with 2000 page romance novels that were too painful for my dad to proofread. I decided I wanted to publish after I wrote Gemini Rising Book I and realized it was good enough to submit a manuscript or two. My publisher actually found me and saved me the frustration of getting all those nightmarish rejection letters I’ve heard of.
5. Your favorite books?
Twilight series, Hunger Games and any Stephen King novels.
6. What inspired you to write Gemini Rising?
My inspiration was Twilight and the Host but I also wanted to create something that would speak to the younger generation in a healthy way. I wanted to have romance but or the kind that takes over your soul and makes you feel like you’re nothing without each other. Violette and Onyx are crazily attracted to each other but they don’t reek of co-dependency like Edward and Bella. It was just after New Moon had been released and I started thinking about how could supersede vampires and werewolves and come up with an entirely different creature that was faster, stronger, sexier and who’s existence more meaningful.7. Do you have a playlist for your book?
All of the Twilight soundtracks.
8. Future projects?
I am working on the fourth book in the Gemini Rising Series right now. I plan to finish this series and get the rest of it published. I want a film maker to take notice and make a movie of it! That would be my ultimate dream come true! If I could hand pick the cast, a computer-generated Robert Pattinson could be Onyx and Kristen Stewart could be Violette- her sexiness and age would have to be played down though, (If that’s even possible!)
9.A message to the future writers?
It sounds so cliche, but I'll say it anyway. Do not give up on your dreams! If you want them bad enough you will eventually find them and always remember that dreams change.
10.A message for your fans?
I love and value each and every one of you! Your feedback, your criticism, your praise, it all means the worlds to me! What is an author without fans of their work? An artist without a brush, a dog without a bone, a... well, you get the idea.
