Book Description:
Sophie Bloom’s junior year has been a bit of a train wreck.
After the world’s greatest kiss re-awakened Sophie’s true identity as
Persephone (Goddess of Spring and Savior of Humanity), she fought her
dragon-lady guidance counselor to the death, navigated mean girl Bethany’s
bitchy troublemaking, and dealt with the betrayal of her backstabbing ex, Kai
(sexy Prince of Darkness). You’d think a girl could catch a break.
Yeah, right.
With Zeus stepping things up, it’s vital that Sophie retrieve
Persephone’s memories and discover the location of the ritual to stop Zeus and
Hades. So when Aphrodite strikes a deal that can unlock Sophie’s pre-mortal
past, what choice does the teen goddess have but to accept?
The mission: stop media mogul Hermes from turning Bethany into a
global mega-celebrity. The catch? Aphrodite partners Sophie and Kai to work
together … and treat this suicide mission as a date. Which could work out for
Sophie’s plan to force Kai to admit his feelings for her–if she doesn’t kill
him first.
Add to that the fact that BFF Theo’s love life and other BFF
Hannah’s actual life are in Sophie’s hands, and suddenly being a teenager—even
a godlike one—seems a bit like … well, hell. Whatever happened to dinner and a
movie?
The YA romantic comedy/Greek
mythology fireworks continue to fly in My Date From Hell. Love meets
comedy with a whole lot of sass in book two of this teen fantasy romance
series. Breaking up is easy; dating is deadly.

Cue horror music and the entrance of the dreaded yoga girls. The leader of that “namaste” bowing bitchfest was one Bethany Russo-Hill. For all her practice of enlightenment through bendiness, she ran her cult yoga sessions like a drill sergeant. Girls had been known to come out sobbing because their sun salutation wasn’t worshipful enough. – My Ex From Hell
I spend a lot of time thinking about how to best convey an essential snapshot of a character when they are introduced. And I think that the description of new age zen spun into impressive levels of bullying does a good job encapsulating the essence of Bethany.
Let me be a lesson to you, kids. There is a reason you shouldn’t get all cocky. Because if you do, the universe will come along and kick your ass hard. – My Ex From Hell
One of the fun things about telling a story about gods and goddesses is that they are rock stars in terms of bad behavior and arrogance. Thing is, so are teens. So poor Sophie is doubly blessed (cursed?) with cockiness. Thus meaning she has that much harder to fall. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, right?
She bopped out of the river–clad only in some strategically placed seaweed–and rushed me like a twelve-year-old girl reunited with her BFF at summer camp. – My Ex From Hell
I chose this quote because after 5 million and fifty-seven reads of this book, this sentence still makes me laugh. It’s a great visual.
I met his gaze refusing to be cowed into submission. Massaged into submission. Whichever. “You going to help me slay a dragon or not?”
“If I do, does that make me your knight?”
“If only you could be labeled so easily.”
Kai laughed. How come he only sounded that entertained when it was at me, not with me? – My Ex From Hell
I’ve always thought of this trilogy as a romantic comedy first and foremost. So that means antagonistic banter which thinly disguises extreme attraction. Which Sophie and Kai have in spades.
